Bhagavad Gita 220101

Bhagavad Gita

Bhagavad Gita
CH -II Yoga of Knowledge
(Sankhya Yoga)

Arjuna said:
7 I pray thee to make me thy pupil
And teach for sure betterment.
For by pity, my duty sense is lost
So show me way, I pray thee Lord
8 Possession of lands, position as Lord
Foeless state and full of wealth -
Are there, yet I see nothing to soothe
Surging sorrow, routing my sense.

Arjuna observes, the victory and the wealth that He get is not giving him peace of mind. Arjuna says that his sense is lost and not able to decide.  Finally he requested Krishna's help. Arjuna asked Krishna to make him his disciple and guide him to perform well.

In the path of yoga, initiation by a Guru is required. Initiation is not given without request and submission of the disciple.

Let all of us implore discipleship from Krishna, it will bring all excellence in our life.

Bhagavad Gita 211231

Bhagavad Gita

Bhagavat Gita
CH -II Yoga of Knowledge
(Sankhya Yoga)
5-6

Arjuna Said:

5 Great is to go and beg for bread
Than killing noble sirs so dear.
It is same as drinking blood
Killing Grus to enjoy wealth.

6 Either we win or they win
What happens we don’t know.
For dear life we don’t wish
To kill the Kurus in any war.

Arjuna observes that to kill own Masters and Grandfather, is same as living on their blood. So, It's better to begging, than killing them.

In the course of war winning is not sure for the warriors. Though life is dear for us, we don't want a lawless winning, win with Adharma.

It is the nobility of Arjuna to think of Dharma. To live with value is dharma. Hare Krishna

Bhagavad Gita

Bhagavat Gita
CH -II Yoga of Knowledge
(Sankhya Yoga)
Sanjaya said :

3 Rise up Partha !  Oh Foe-foiler
Do not yield to impotency.
As it does not befit thee, so;
Cast off weakness of thy heart.

4 Arjuna said:
How can I war Bhishma - Drona,
How can I war oh Madhusudhana ?
Say oh Foe-mar ! can I shoot
Such honored sirs of mine ?

Now Krishna consoles Arjuna. Rise up Partha, don't become stupid. That's not your nature. You are really good foe-foiler, most elegant warrior.

Then, Arjuna opens up to Krishna. Oh Krishna, I see Bhishma and Dronacharya in the foes. They are my most respected and more than my life to me. I can't fight with them.

Share your problems with the Lord. He will take care of you.

Bhagavad Gita 211229

Bhagavad Gita

Bhagavat Gita
CH -II Yoga of Knowledge
(Sankhya Yoga)
1 Sanjaya said :
He thus sat in with tears
Dull and also very pitiful.
So then told to thus grieved
Madhusudhana the Lord of all !

2 The Blessed Lord said:
Its unheavenly, cowardice;
And disgrace too oh Arjuna!
At situation neared so critical
Stupidity caught thee then.

Arjuna sat there in tears in front of Krishna. To this grievous man, Krishna began to speak. A Speech of motivation, which is followed by many intellectuals. This dialogue is translated to many languages and respected as a mind management manual, prompted in many great people.

At first,  Krishna scolds Arjuna, calling him coward and stupid, like a parent. This reprimand is a shock treatment for a depressed warrior. A scolding at an appropriate time may do magic.

Oh Lord, we are waiting for thee to do magic in our lives.

Bhagavad Gita 211226

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said:45-46

Men of ruined law of caste;
Cause all souls to dwell in hell.
Says such souls may stay there
For time unknown Janardhana!

I feel better to be resistless
Unarmed and be killed by
These very armed Dhartharashtras
Than to avenge them in any war.

We can see Arjuna lamenting the same concern for society. Once the dead, if not getting any death rituals, will stay in hell for prolonged time. Therefore Arjuna doesn't want to fight. Instead he wants to get killed at the hands of his enemies without resistance.

The man who lost his aim can't take a decision. Such a person can never win. Oh Lord Krishna, lead us to noble deeds.

Bhagavad Gita 211228

Bhagavad Gita

Sanjaya said: 47
Thus spoken in the grip of grief,
In the chariot Arjuna slumped;
Casting bows and arrows far
With a sad and dejected mind.

Thus the Shrimad Bhagavath Githopanishad
The Supreme doctrine of Yoga Science
As Shrikrishna - Arjuna dialogue
Arjuna Vishada Yoga the First Chapter.

Arjuna then sat there in the chariot, in sorrow and dejection. When grief over come senses, man becomes shattered. At such situations one needs a good friend or person who's support can bring him back to victory.

Oh Lord Krishna, we pray thee to be with us always, like a flower with fragrance.

Bhagavad Gita 211225

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said:

Intercastes and outcastes
Cause hell to castes and all.
Because getting no death rites
Falls their parents souls in hell.

Evil deeds of these outcastes
May cause further mix of castes.
Thus eroding laws of castes
Will erase religion eternal.

Arjuna think of all possible ways to avoid harm to the society. He thinks that, war may cause deaths and widows; it may spoil the society. More over, the dead may not get their death rituals and their souls will not get liberation. This condition may lead to more sin to the society. Furthermore, the eternal religion will perish.

It's always the good people whose good thinking saves the society. Oh Lord Krishna, this society is under confusion. We pray to God to lead us correct path and Dharma.

Bhagavad Gita 211224

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said: 41-42

Mar of caste may cause
Day to day customs mar.
Thus impiety will incur
And Pollute all religions.

Lawless mass cause to have
Chasteless ladies in society.
Outcasted ladies, will cause
More intercastes in society.

Arjuna reasoning his stand says-- this war may cause total death of the young people. It will generate a headless family. It will bring anarchy and failure for the relationship of family. Thus outcast, inter-cast my ring and law and order will be crippled.

A healthy society will have law and order, where as, Society emerge from the family. Family prospect with love and respect. Oh Krishna you are love and peace to us. We pray thy presence in our hearts.

BHAGAVAD GITA 211223

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said: 39-40

Though with wicked stolen sense
These fools may cause sin to all.
But we those who see such evils
How can neglect it Oh Janardhana?

Pray, how can we Krishna
Correct this sin full path
And avoid oh Janardhana
Lose of caste and disgrace.

The Kuru side is acting under wickedness. We who realise this must correct it for the welfare of the society. Isn't it ? This war will cause disgrace to society through loss of the caste system. Oh Krishna, you can suggest ideas to avoid this war.

It's the duty of every responsible person to protect the system and it's values. Society without law will make anarchy and terror.

Love and peace is the only remedy for war and envy. God's blessings are required for it. So let us pray- Oh Lord, let there be happiness all-around us.

Bhagavad Gita 211222

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said: 37-38

What gain I get by killing
Dartharashtras Janardhana?

Though these kinsmen are evil,

I will surely get sin by killing them.

After slaying these related
How can we be gay Madhava?
So we deserve not to kill
Dartharashtras and relatives.

Arjuna implores Krishna for advice; there is only sin that can happen on killing the Kuru men.  We can't get any happiness. So, we don't want to kill our relatives.

By destruction or gruesome killing, none can be happy.

Be love full, kind and compassionate. God will always bless them, returning the love unlimited.

Bhagavad Gita 211221

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said:  35-36

Teachers, parents and children;
Also grandfathers as well as
Grandsons uncles and in - laws
All pledged to fight to win or die.

In greed to gain all three worlds
Or even to protect my own life.
I don’t want to kill oh Krishna,
Why I then kill for a kingdom?

The battlefield was filled with friends and relatives. There was parents and children, grandparents and grandsons, uncles and nephews. Unfortunately all were pledged to fight to death. Now Partha doesn't want to kill. He began to feel the worthless war and it's aftermath.

Arjuna realised that material gains are momentary. Gaining the blessings of God, through love and peace worth it.

Oh Lord, bless us with thy eternal love and peace.

Bhagavad Gita 211220

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said: 33-34

Krishna, I wish not to win
Neither state nor any riches.
Earning empire or by wealth
What we get say dear Govinda!

This state, luck and lavish,
For whose sake I wanted it;
They are fighting for my foes
Risking their luck and life.

Krishna, I don't want to win this war. I don't want this empire and its wealth. What's the meaning of earning it ? I don't want it because; for whom we wanted it, they are fighting against us. They are risking their own lives. So, I don't want to fight.

When we face our dear friends in an argument, we may let go.  We may sacrifice our want for their sake.  However, we know Krishna brought Arjuna to true-  path of war.

Oh Lord, we too beseech thee for guidance.

Bhagavad Gita 211219

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna said: 31-32

Bow-Gandiva slips off my hands
My body burns all and through
My mind rolls and rolls so fast
And unable I am to stay steady.

Kesava, I see no grace in -
Killing any of my kin’s men
And omens I see now, are
Also seem to be unlucky.

Arjuna continues.. my bow slips from my grip. My body is burning and my mind is rolling. I am unable to stay firm.  Oh Kesava, I can't find any benefit in this war of killing my near and dear. The omens I see do confirm this.

If we are conquered by confusion as well as frustration, we will have the same feeling as Arjuna had. He began to reason his stand - "I won't fight".  We see bad omens for reasoning our actions.

Oh Lord Krishna, bless and guide us to make good decisions, at the time of struggle.

Bhagavad Gita 211218

Bhagavad Gita

 Sanjaya said: 28- 30

Thus seeing his kith and kin
With his foes in the battle field
Sat he dull and sorrow struck
And groaned Arjuna agonized thus -

Arjuna said:
Krishna see my kinsmen
Longing to fight with us.

My mouth is getting dry,
Weakens my grip and body
And makes my hair to stand
As I see my rival relatives

Arjuna seeing his kith and kin, against him, became stupid and sorrowful. He complains to Krishna, his friend. The gravity of the situation weakened him physically, it began to dry his mouth and lose his grip.

When we have to face many foes, we search for support. Here lucky, Arjuna has Krishna as his companion.

Oh Lord Krishna, we too surrender to thee and beg for protection.

Bhagavad Gita 211217

Bhagavad Gita
 Sanjaya said: 27
Many more key men of the world
Gathered in for the Kuru’s side.
Grandfathers and fathers so,
Teachers, uncles and nephews so,

Arjuna saw many more men all over the world for Kuru's side. Also his own grandfather, teachers, uncles and nephews, all so dear.
When I see my own friends and relatives against me, I may think that my life is useless. What I gathered in life is only enemies, it's embarrassing. I will end my life. So does Arjuna think.

Bhagavad Gita 211215

Bhagavad Gita

25-26  Sanjaya said:

With an action of gesture
Arjuna told Hrishikesa
To place the special chariot
In - between the cavalries.

Then placing the divine car in -
The middle of the cavalries
Hrishikesa showed him Partha
Bhishma - Drona as important

As Arjuna requested Krishna, Krishna placed his chariot in between the cavalry. And showed him Bhishma and Dronacharya, the prominent opponents.
Own dear, respected acharya and relatives seen as enemies. It's very difficult to digest such a situation.
Here in the fight for Dharna, Dharma is to be protected. Dharma only gives liberation.
Oh Lord, bless and lead us through Dharma.

Bhagavad Gita 211213

Bhagavad Gita
Sanjaya said:
20-22
Echoed the gong of sounds
On earth and in heaven alike
The roar fatigued the hearts
Of Dhartharashtra’s all alike.

Then to survey the battle field
Arjuna - the monkey flagged
Ready with his bow in hand
Got up as to start the war.

And thus spake to Hrishikesa
Following words Oh Great King!

The great war cries of the soldiers seemed to resonate all heaven and earth alike.  Also, the same sounds created a shudder in the heart of the blind king Dritharashta. The King began to sense failure for his sons.
Then Arjuna was ready to start the war. He wanted to see his opponents. He was wearing his bow and arrows in a chariot with a flag marked with a monkey on it. Arjuna requested his charioteer Krishna thus..
The war is proclaimed. The great warrior Arjuna wanted to see his opponents.  War is imminent and fate  of the soldiers are in uncertainty.
The soldiers never think of death until they face it. Life is uncertain so Submission to God is the only hope in such situations.
